01 · The problem

Sound familiar?

These are the issues I see most often before a Astro project starts. Each one quietly costs enquiries, time or trust, and most businesses have more than one.

Usually a good fit if you're

  • Service businesses that want a fast, distinctive marketing site
  • Portfolios and content sites where page speed matters
  • Teams moving away from a slow, plugin-heavy setup
  1. 01

A page builder limits the design.

  2. 02

The site fails Core Web Vitals.

  3. 03

Plugins need constant updates and patches.

  4. 04

Search engines struggle to understand the pages.

02 · The solution

How I solve it with Astro.

Astro is a modern web framework that renders pages to plain HTML ahead of time and only ships JavaScript to the parts of a page that need it. That makes it particularly useful for content-focused and performance-conscious websites: portfolios, service businesses, marketing sites and documentation.

A custom Astro site is coded rather than assembled from a page builder, so the design is not limited by a theme and the pages stay light. It suits owners who value speed and design control and are happy to request content changes, or to edit structured content files.

  1. 01

Problem: A page builder limits the design.

Solution: A coded design system, so the layout follows the brand rather than a theme.

  2. 02

Problem: The site fails Core Web Vitals.

Solution: Static HTML, minimal JavaScript and optimised images, measured before launch.

  3. 03

Problem: Plugins need constant updates and patches.

Solution: No plugin layer to maintain: fewer moving parts and a smaller security surface.

  4. 04

Problem: Search engines struggle to understand the pages.

Solution: Clean semantic HTML, structured data, a sitemap and metadata generated from one data file.

Astro questions, answered.

Ask a question

How is Astro different from WordPress?

WordPress builds pages on the server each time (unless cached) and is edited in a dashboard. Astro builds pages once into static files, which are fast to serve and have fewer moving parts. WordPress is easier for frequent self-editing; Astro is better when speed and design control matter most.

Can I still edit content?

Yes. Content can live in simple data or Markdown files, or be connected to a headless CMS if you want a dashboard.

Where is an Astro site hosted?

Static hosts such as Cloudflare Pages, Netlify or Vercel. Many offer generous free tiers for small business sites.

What PageSpeed score can I expect?

Astro sites are static by default, so a mobile Lighthouse performance score of 95 or more is the target for every page I build. I test before launch and share the report; heavy third-party embeds you choose to add can lower it.
